Citra hops hit the craft brewing world in 2008 as a cross-breed of several hop varieties from the UK, Germany, and the U.S. Citra is a dual purpose hop with high alpha acid content (11-13%), which can be used for bittering and flavor/aroma in craft beers. It has become far more popular for the latter as craft brewers and consumers embraced the fantastic aromas/ flavors of passion fruit, tropical fruit, and citrus.

Citra hops have become extremely popular in all types of IPAs, and in American Pale Ales, Session-Style Ales, and other styles. Citra has also become a favorite hop to use for dry-hopping due to the exceptional aromas it produces.
