Columbus hops are a dual purpose American variety, with high alpha acid content (14-16%) for bittering. Columbus hops are also popular for aroma and flavoring in craft beer, and their characteristics have been described as dank, resiny, woody, and earthy with light citrus.

Columbus hops are very popular in all types of IPAs, American Pale Ales, Porters, Stouts, and Brown Ales.
