Crafting the Perfect Bourbon Sour
For the perfect bourbon sour, start with a good, solid, high quality bourbon. We like to use Buffalo Trace, Four Roses, or Maker’s Mark, but there are several other good bourbons to choose from for this cocktail. Bourbon is a barrel-aged whiskey which is primarily distilled with corn. Aging is done in new, charred white oak barrels, and aging time varies by product and producer.
A fresh lemon or two, is essential for creating the perfect bourbon sour. The fresh squeezed juice is used in the drink, and a slice of lemon is used as a garnish.
A few dashes of Angostura bitters adds some depth to the cocktail.
Topping off with chilled club soda adds some refreshing carbonation which enhances the citrus and sour flavors.
That’s it – simple and tasty. Enjoy!
1 1/2 oz. bourbon
1 oz. fresh squeezed lemon juice
1/2 tsp sugar
3-4 dashes angostura bitters
Add fresh lemon to cocktail glass with sugar and stir.
Add bourbon and ice.
Top off with club soda, add bitters and stir.
Garnish with a lemon slice.
