All Grain HomeBrew Black Rye IPA Recipe

Profile: HomeBrew recipe for a Black Rye IPA, similar to Firestone Walker Wookey Jack. Medium-bodied with a roasty profile and moderately low hop bitterness.

Ingredients:

Malts

12 lbs 2-Row Pale Malt

2 lbs Malted Rye

12 oz. Carafa

12 oz. Wheat Malt

8 oz. CaraMunich

Hops

2 oz. Magnum 14%a, 60 minutes

1/2 oz. Citra 11%a, 20 minutes

1/4 oz. Amarillo 8%a, 15 minutes

1/4 oz. Amarillo 8%a, flameout

Yeast: American Ale

Dry-Hop: 1/2 oz. Amarillo

Instructions:

Mash all grains for 1 hour at 152 degrees.

Sparge at 170 degrees.

One hour boil with hop regimen above.

Ferment at 63-68 degrees.

Rack to keg or secondary and age for 6-8 weeks.

    I don’t yet have a rating, but I do have a question: what is the water apportionment to this recipe – mash in at 5 gallons, and then sparge back to 5 gallons?
