All Grain Dank Resiny IPA Recipe

Profile: HomeBrew recipe for an IPA brewed with hops that provide dank, earthy, and resiny pine flavors. This IPA leaves the fruity and overly citrusy IPAs on the sidelines and highlights dank, earthy, and resiny aromas and flavors. Very high hop bitterness.



10 lbs Maris Otter

2 lbs Munich Light Malt

8 oz. Crystal 60

8 oz. CaraPils

Hops (Pellets)

1 oz. Columbus 15%a, 60 minutes

1 oz. Columbus 15%a, 20 minutes

1 oz. Apollo 17%a, 10 minutes

1 oz. Australian Topaz 15%a, 5 minutes

YeastWhite Labs WLP001 California Ale Yeast

Dry Hops: 1 oz. Columbus (whole leaf), 1 oz. Australian Topaz


Mash all grains for 1 hour at 152 degrees.

Sparge at 170 degrees.

One hour boil with hop regimen above.

Ferment at 63-68 degrees.

Rack to keg or secondary and age for 5 weeks. Add dry hops for the last 7 days.

    Getting ready to brew this because I really need a nice piney IPA. Just a question though, after entering all of the ingredients into BeerSmith I get an estimated IBU of 54, nowhere near the targeted 100 IBU listed in the recipe here. Am I missing something?

    Looks like a fun one to try! My supplier doesn’t have Australian Topaz, curious if you know a substitute that would be similar. Thanks!
