Profile: HomeBrew recipe for a Belgian Farmhouse Saison, similar to The Lost Abbey’s Red Barn Ale. Medium-bodied with aromas of spice and Belgian yeast. Dry finish with moderate hop bitterness.
10 lbs 2-Row Pale Malt
1 lb Flaked Wheat
1 lb Flaked Oats
1 ib dextrose
1 oz. Phoenix 10%a, 60 minutes
1 oz. German Tettnang 4%a, 20 minutes
1/2 cup dried orange peel
1 tsp fresh crushed black pepper
1 tsp grains of paradise
1 tsp fresh grated ginger root
Mash all grains for 1 hour at 150 degrees.
Sparge at 170 degrees.
One hour boil with hop regimen above. Stir in dextrose sugar at 30 minutes.
Stir in orange peel and spices five minutes before flameout.
Ferment warm at 70F.
