All Grain Tropical Lager HomeBrew Recipe
Profile: The idea behind this beer was to create a crisp, refreshing golden-orange lager, with some tropical flavors. Tropical flavor in the beer comes from the use of Citra, Mosaic, and Galaxy hops, which provide some nice fruity mango, pineapple, and passion fruit flavors. The beer is heavy on flavoring hops, but modest on bittering hops.
9 lbs Pilsner Malt
10 oz. Crystal 40
8 oz. CaraPils
1/2 oz. Citra 11%a, at 60 minutes
1/2 oz. Galaxy 14%, 15 minutes
1/2 oz. Mosaic 13%a, 10 minutes
1/2 oz. Citra 11%a, 10 minutes
Optional: For an interesting twist try aging with (in a nylon bag after primary fermentations), one cup American oak chips soaked in Jamaican Rum for 48 hrs, 6 whole allspice berries, and one habanero pepper quartered with the seeds removed.
Mash all grains for 1 hour at 150 degrees.
Sparge at 170 degrees.
One hour boil with hop regimen above.
Chill down to 50F and pitch yeast.
Ferment for about 10-14 days until primary fermentation just finishes.
Diacetyl Rest: Raise beer temp to 62-65F for 2-3 days.
