Kolsch beers are crisp, clean, and refreshing with mild flavors of bready and sweet malt. A smooth, easy-drinking, session-style beer which originated in Cologne, Germany. Kolsch beers are classified as ales, but fermented at cooler temperatures which gives the beer characteristics of lager beers, including a lower fruity character than most ales.

Many craft brewers offer Kolsch beers as Summer seasonal offerings, due to their light-bodied and refreshing character. Some, though offer this style year-round, as a popular alternative to mass-produced lager beers.
