New Craft Beer Releases for January 2014

January brings several great, seasonal malt-forward beer releases from craft brewers, along with some flavorful IPAs and other specialty beers.

Three Floyds Behemoth Barleywine is an annual January release. The malty beer weighs in at 10.5% ABV, with 80 IBUs.

Midnight Sun Brewery out of Anchorage, AK releases their XXX Black Double IPA (8.5%, 87 IBUs). Rich, dark, and hoppy with flavors of citrus, pine, and dark caramel.

Dark Horse Brewing releases Dark Horse Fore this month, an American Smoked Stout brewed in Marshall, MI.

Ninkasi Brewing out of Eugene, OR releases Dawn of the Red (7.5%, 75 IBUs), a brand new India Red Ale brewed with El Dorado and Mosaic hops.

Sun King Zaius Oatmeal Stout (5&, 27 IBUs) is an annual release from the brewery in Indianapolis. The smooth and creamy beer is brewed with a portion of cherrywood smoked malt for added complexity.

Craft beer fans in the Houston area should soon see Karbach Pontificator (8.4%, 30 IBUs) on the shelves, a smoked German-Style Doppelbock. The strong lager is brewed with Munich Malt, Beechwood Smoked Malt, and Cherrywood Smoked Malt.

Great Lakes Barrel-Aged Blackout Stout (9%, 50 IBUs) comes out in January. The beer is a highly sought after Imperial Stout aged in oak bourbon barrels.

Bayou Teche Brewing out of Amaudville releases Saison D’Ecrevisses (6%, 24 IBUs), a Belgian-Style farmhouse ale brewed with Rye and French Aramis hops.

Jolly Pumpkin releases their seasonal Belgian-Style Stout, Madrugada Obscura Dark Dawn (8.1%). The beer is aged in oak barrels with wild yeast.

SanTan Sex Panther (6.9%, 20 IBUS) becomes available in January. This Double Chocolate Porter is brewed in Chandler, AZ, and flavored with Colonial Rosewood Cocoa.

Runoff Red IPA (6.6%, 50 IBUs) and Lugene Chocolate Milk Stout (8.5%), release out of Fort Collins, CO in January, from Odell Brewing.

Heavy Seas out of Halethorpe, MD release Black Cannon (7.3%), a Black IPA brewed with 6 varieties of hops.

Sierra Nevada Bigfoot Barleywine hits the shelves as an annual release in January.

Boston craft beer fans should see Harpoon’s Celtic Red (5.4%, 26 IBUs) on shelves, a seasonal Irish Style Red Ale.

Rahr & Sons Brewery out of Dallas, releases Iron Thistle (8%, 25 IBUs), a Strong Scottish Style Ale, in January.

Brasserie Dieu Du Ciel releases Rigor Mortis (10.5%) in January, a Belgian-Style Quadrupel.
