Top Rated Pilsners

The Best Pilsner Beers

Cold-aged for clean and crisp flavors. Pilsners are a refreshing style of beer which can be drank all year round.

Craft brewed pilsners are typically brewed with 100% malted barley and whole or pellet compressed hops. Mass market pilsners use adjuncts like corn and rice to produce cheaper versions, and concentrated hop extracts which lack the complex hop notes gained by using the actual hops in the brewing process.

Craft brewed pilsners generally fall into three categories American Premium (pre-prohibiition) Style, German Style or Bohemian (Czech) Style. Occasional adventurous craft brewers will produce a Double Pilsner with a heavier body and bolder flavors. American Rye Pilsners are also gaining traction from craft brewers and we have two great ones to try on our list below.

Hop use in craft brewed pilsners skews toward noble varieties with pleasant floral notes and smooth bitterness. Saaz, Tettnanger, and Hallertau hop types are very popular.
